 Sweet & Simple Grandma's Brownies

Here's a recipe shared with us by Robyn Fiedler of Tacoma, Washington. She says it was a staple at her house growing up and makes enough for at least 14 grandkids! They'd be delicious any way you slice 'em, but why not try using a little heart cookie cutter for a special Valentine's Day treat?

1/4 c. butter, melted and cooled
4 eggs, beaten
1 c. sugar
1-1/2 c. chocolate syrup
1 c. plus 1 T. all-purpose flour

Combine first 4 ingredients; blend well. Mix in flour; spread in a greased jelly-roll pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 25 minutes; cool. Spread with frosting; cut into squares or diagonally into diamonds. Makes 3 dozen.

Frosting:

6 T. butter
6 T. milk
1-1/2 c. sugar
2/3 c. chocolate chips

Bring butter, milk and sugar to a rolling boil in a small saucepan; stir constantly. Remove from heat; stir in chocolate chips until melted and smooth.

Want to treat your littlest Valentine? Here's an easy recipe from Kids in the Kitchen, Year 'Round Fun that they'll love helping make. No measuring and no mixing...just 100% fun for little hands!

Kids in the Kitchen, Year 'Round Fun Giant Cookie Hearts

18-1/2 oz. tube refrigerated chocolate chip cookie dough
Garnish: red, pink or white frosting, candy sprinkles

Break cookie dough into 2 equal halves; pat into 2 small hearts on a greased cookie sheet. Bake at 350 degrees for 20 to 25 minutes, until golden. Place pan on wire rack for 10 minutes and then remove cookies to rack to cool completely. Decorate with frosting and sprinkles. Serves 8.

Whip These Up in a Jiffy!

These sweet little hearts add a personalized touch to any package...what an easy way to give a gift to remember!

Sweetheart Tags

red or pink felt squares
pinking shears
craft glue
wide satin ribbon
embroidery floss & needle

Cut out 4 hearts from the felt, using the pinking shears. Sandwiching each end of the ribbon between 2 hearts, glue hearts together; allow to dry. Using embroidery floss, add decorative stitching around the edges or stitch an initial in the middle. Wrap dressed-up ribbon around homemade goodies and surprise loved ones with an extra-special gift.

Even simpler, cut a shorter length of ribbon, add hearts to the ends and make a sweet bookmark to pass on to someone special!

That's it for February's Feather Your Nest...thanks for reading and be sure to share it with your friends. Join us next month when we're all sure to have a little spring fever...see you then!
