There's just something about mom's recipes that make us smile and keep us coming back for more. That's why I love this cookbook. All of the recipes in this new book appeared in some mother's recipe box at some point in time. All of the recipes are easy, comforting, simple, and just the kind of wonderful dishes that you'd find on the tables of the best cooks in the world - our moms! Of course I love this cookbook! It's Gooseberry Patch for one and my Dad's recipe(Little Pigs in a Mud Hole) is in it. My Dad passed away in August 2010 from cancer and I was notified months after, that a recipe I submitted a long time ago from my Dad was going to be in Mom's Very Best Recipes. This brought happy tears to both my Mom and I. Although, the editing changed the recipe a little it's very close and I know others will enjoy it as the editor has it in there. In the description it said the little sausages was my addition. It was my Dad's addition. I added onions and chicken stock to the recipe. The beans we use are usually baby Limas, sometimes Great Northern, Navy Beans or large Limas. I'm sure the Mixed Beans will work fantastic in this recipe. I don't think you can go wrong with this recipe. If you don't have chicken stock or broth on hand you can even use straight water with it. That is what my Dad and Mom did. I can't wait to try all the tried and true recipes that I'm sure have good memories with them like my Dad's recipe does. The Butter Rum Muffins from Diana in Nickerson, KS sounds so good and they make 3 dozen so I can bake and share. Blueberry and Rhubarb Muffins from Ruth in Plainfield, IN also sound wonderful. My husband loves rhubarb so I plan to try these as well. There are just so many wonderful recipes in this book that I don't know where to start so I'll start at the beginning! It makes it even more special knowing they come from families all over who want to share meals they have happy memories tied too. What a blessing!

I could see this book becoming mom's secret weapon. There are so many unique recipes that will get kids to fall in love with new foods. Honeyed Mango Salad will surely get them to enjoy their fruits and I am not one for asparagus but even I want to try Cheesy Asparagus! Even the names of some of these recipes bring a smile to my face like Bubble & Squeak and Hot Dog Burreenies! Too cute!
