Chocolate Buttermilk Biscuits

3 T. sugar, divided
1/8 t. cinnamon
2 c. all-purpose flour
1 T. baking powder
1/3 c. butter
3/4 c. buttermilk
1/2 c. semi-sweet chocolate chips
1/4 c. butter, melted


Combine 2 tablespoons sugar and cinnamon; set aside. Combine flour, remaining sugar and baking powder; cut in butter until mixture is crumbly. Add buttermilk and chocolate chips, stirring just until dry ingredients are moistened. Turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface; knead 3 to 4 times. Roll dough to 1/2-inch thickness; cut with 2-1/4 inch round cookie or biscuit cutter. Arrange biscuits on a lightly greased baking sheet; sprinkle with sugar mixture. Bake at 425 degrees for 15 minutes, or until golden. Brush with melted butter. Makes one dozen.
