Strawberry Shortcake

1-1/2 c. all-purpose flour
1/4 t. salt
2 t. baking powder
1/4 c. shortening
1 egg, beaten
1/2 c. milk
1/8 c. sugar
Garnish: strawberries, sliced and whipped topping


In a large bowl, sift together flour, salt and baking powder; cut in shortening. In a separate bowl, combine egg and milk and add all at once to the flour mix; mix lightly. Pat into an 8"x8" pan and sprinkle with sugar. Bake at 400 degrees for 12 to 15 minutes. Top will be lightly browned. Serve with strawberries and whipped topping. Makes 8 to 10 servings.
