Christmas Cheer Cookies

2-1/2 c. all-purpose flour
1 t. baking soda
1 t. cream of tartar
1-1/2 t. cinnamon
1/2 t. allspice
1/4 t. nutmeg
1/4 t. ground cloves
1 c. butter, softened
1-1/4 c. powdered sugar
1 egg
1 t. vanilla extract
1/2 t. almond extract


Sift dry ingredients together in a bowl; set aside. Cream butter and sugar in a large mixing bowl; blend in egg and extracts. Add dry ingredients gradually until well blended; shape dough into a ball. Wrap dough in plastic wrap; chill for one hour. Roll out dough on a lightly floured surface to about 1/8-inch thickness; cut into desired shapes using cookie cutters. Bake on ungreased baking sheets at 350 degrees for about 8 minutes. Cool on wire racks. Makes about 2 to 3 dozen.
