Frosty Strawberry Squares

1 c. all-purpose flour
1/4 c. brown sugar, packed
1/2 c. chopped walnuts
1/2 c. butter, melted
2 egg whites
2/3 c. sugar
2 T. lemon juice
10-oz. pkg. frozen strawberries, thawed
1 c. whipping cream, whipped
Optional: whole strawberries


Mix together flour, brown sugar, walnuts and butter; set aside one-third for topping. Pat remaining mixture into an ungreased 13"x9" baking pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally; remove from oven and set aside. Combine egg whites, sugar, lemon juice and strawberries in a large bowl. Blend with an electric mixer on high speed until stiff peaks form, about 10 minutes. Fold in whipped cream; spoon over crumb crust. Top with reserved mixture; freeze for 6 hours or overnight. Cut into squares for serving. If desired, garnish with whole berries.Makes 16 servings
