2-1/4 c. all-purpose flour 1/2 c. sugar 1 t. baking powder 1/2 t. baking soda 1/2. t. salt 1-1/2 t. cinnamon 1 t. ground ginger 1/4 t. ground cloves 1/2 c. shortening 1/2 c. molasses 1 egg, beaten Optional: frosting, sprinkles
In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt and spices. In a separate bowl, blend together shortening, molasses and egg; stir into flour mixture and blend well. Shape dough into a ball; wrap in wax paper and refrigerate for one hour, or until dough is firm. On a lightly floured surface, roll out dough to 1/8 to 1/4-inch thickness and cut with a cookie cutter. Arrange on an ungreased baking sheet. Bake at 350 degrees for 8 minutes, or until golden. Frost and decorate, if desired. Makes about 2 dozen. | |
