Grandma's Peach Cobbler

1/2 c. butter, sliced
15-1/4 oz. can sliced peaches in syrup
1 c. self-rising flour
1 c. sugar
1 c. whole milk
1 t. almond extract
cinnamon to taste
cinnamon to taste
Optional: whipping cream or vanilla ice cream


Add butter to an 11"x7" baking pan; melt in a 350-degree oven. Pour peaches with syrup into pan; set aside. In a bowl, combine flour, sugar, milk and extract; stir until smooth. Pour batter over peaches. Bake at 350 degrees until bubbly and golden, about 35 to 45 minutes. Remove from oven; immediately sprinkle with cinnamon. Serve warm, topped with cream or ice cream, if desired. Serves 6 to 8.
