Sweet English Breakfast Porridge

4 c. water
1 t. salt
2-1/2 c. quick-cooking oats, uncooked
3 T. butter
1/4 t. cinnamon
1/4 t. nutmeg
1 c. brown sugar, packed
1/4 c. maple syrup
1/2 c. sweetened condensed milk
Optional: additional maple syrup


Bring water and salt to a boil in a medium saucepan. Stir in oats; cook over medium heat for one minute, stirring constantly. Remove from heat. Add remaining ingredients except garnish and mix well. Spoon into 6 cereal bowls and top with additional syrup, if desired. Makes 6 servings.
