2-1/2 c. all-purpose flour, divided 1 T. baking powder 1 t. salt 1/4 c. shortening 4-3/4 c. milk, divided 1 lb. ground pork breakfast sausage salt and pepper to taste
In a bowl, combine 2 cups flour, baking powder and salt. Cut in shortening until small crumbs form. Add 3/4 cup milk; stir until just moistened. Transfer dough to a lightly floured surface. Knead dough
5 to 10 times; roll out to 1/2-inch thickness. Cut with a floured biscuit cutter. Transfer biscuits to an ungreased baking sheet. Bake at 450 degrees for 10 to 12 minutes, until golden. Meanwhile, brown
and crumble sausage in a skillet over medium heat. Stir in remaining flour. Gradually pour in remaining milk and cook until gravy reaches desired consistency. Season with salt and pepper. To serve, split biscuits and top with sausage gravy. Serves 6. | |
