Three-Layer Chocolate Cake

1 c. butter, softened
1-3/4 c. sugar
1 T. vanilla extract
3 eggs
1 c. baking cocoa
1 t. baking soda
1/4 t. salt
2-1/4 c. all-purpose flour
1-1/2 t. baking powder
1-3/4 c. milk

Fudge Frosting:
1 c. butter, softened
4 c. powdered sugar
1/2 c. baking cocoa
2 t. vanilla extract
4 to 5 T. milk


Cream butter, sugar and vanilla together in a large mixing bowl until light and fluffy. Add eggs; beat well and set aside. Sift together all dry ingredients and alternately add with milk to sugar mixture. Divide evenly into 3 greased 9" round cake pans; bake at 350 degrees for 25 to 30 minutes. Cool 10 minutes in pan.Combine all Fudge Frosting ingredients together in a large mixing bowl; beat with electric mixer until smooth. When completely cool, frost with Fudge Frosting. Makes 12 servings.
